BBC News: Mayall Back In Hospital
Wednesday, February 10, 1999

Comedian Rik Mayall, who suffered severe head injuries in a quad bike accident last year, has been taken to hospital for further tests.

The former Young Ones and New Statesman star was taken to the accident and emergency unit of Charing Cross Hospital, west London, after collapsing at his home in nearby Notting Hill.

According to The Sun, doctors gave the 40-year-old a brain scan. Mayall's wife Barbara told the newspaper: "Rik is doing fine. It's a blip."

A spokesman for the hospital confirmed: "He has had tests and he is fine."

In April 1998 Mayall suffered serious head injuries after falling off his quad bike and becoming trapped beneath the 600lb machine.

Doctors feared he would die or suffer permanent brain damage, and he endured months of recuperation.
