WIFE OF INJURED COMEDIAN RIK MAYALL, REMAINS AT HIS BEDSIDE

RIK MAYALL'S wife, Barbara, yesterday continued her vigil at the bedside of the seriously injured comedian.

Mrs Mayall, 39, has been at her husband's side since he crashed a 600lb quad bike at their country farmhouse last Thursday.

Mr Mayall is still under sedation at Plymouth's Derriford Hospital but a spokeswoman said his condition was still "stable".

Flowers and cards from well-wishers around the globe were continuing to arrive for the stricken star, she added.

The 39-year-old comedian was airlifted to the hospital after Mrs Mayall found him unconscious and pinned beneath the four-wheeled bike at their remote Pasture Farm home in Devon.

He is being treated in the intensive care unit.

Mrs Mayall said yesterday: "We think he is OK." The family were "more optimistic" about his progress.

Mr Mayall appeared last night with other Comic Strip stars in a Channel 4 comedy special Four Men in a Car, which went ahead after the programme makers consulted his family.
