Actor and comedian Rik Mayall's wife said she was hopeful her husband would recover from serious head injuries he suffered in a quad bike accident as she kept vigil at his hospital bedside.
The 39-year-old actor remained in a serious but stable condition in the neurological ward at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth. A hospital spokeswoman said his condition was not giving immediate cause for concern, but added: "He is seriously ill."
Barbara Mayall was still at his bedside at the hospital, where he was flown unconscious by police helicopter after the crash in south Devon.
Mrs Mayall said through the hospital spokeswoman: "We have to wait and see. We are all very hopeful."
She thanked people for their concern, but said the family wanted to be left alone.
Flowers were delivered to the hospital's reception desk for the actor and a spokesman said that a number of people had telephoned asking where they could send bouquets.
The spokeswoman added: "There is nothing more we can say about his condition for the moment, and the situation is unlikely to change in the next few days."
The actor's family did not want any specific details of his injuries or treatment released, but the hospital said he was being "closely monitored".
The accident happened when the star was using the four-wheeled machine at Pasture Farm near East Allington, in the South Hams.
The large stone and whitewashed farmhouse, with a number of outbuildings and barns, is well off the road and surrounded by hilly terrain.
